MELPRO 2022

We are glad that the 6th conference MELPRO 2022 was held personally and we were able to welcome all 151 participants from 25 countries in Prague again. The conference took place in the hotel International and there were 91 lectures and 29 posters presented in three parallel sections. The Gala dinner was held at the former wastewater treatment plant with a tour, which included a visit to the underground operations building, where we learnt about the history of sewerage and wastewater treatment. One floor above, in the steam engine room, still-functional pump units from 1903 were seen and put into operation.

We would like to express our thanks to the invited speakers, whose presentations have been great benefit for the participants of the conference:

Dr. MARIA GERRIDINA ELSHOF (NX Filtration, Netherland) with a lecture Membrane based strategies for water footprint reduction

Prof. HO BUM PARK (Energy Engineering Department at Hanyang University (HYU), Seoul, Korea) with a lecture Tailoring nanomaterials to improve membrane performance in gas separation

Prof. JOÃO G. CRESPO (Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal) with a lecture Membrane Contactors: a Brave New World or the same old story?

Student Award – the announcement of the awarded students was a part of the closing ceremony and the authors of the best student works were:

Kyrill Iablochikin (UCT Prague) for poster presentation - Binary gas separation using MMMS based on 6FDA-bisP
Hadi Taghavian (Technical University of Liberec, Institute for Nanomaterials, Advanced Technologies and Innovation) for oral presentation Improved air-assisted surface modification of PTFE hollow fiber membrane via polydopamine incorporated Zinc oxide nanoparticles for water purification
Guoqiang Li (Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń) for oral presentation Pebax/PVDF thin film mixed matrix membranes containing HKUST-1@GO composite for CO2 capture.

European Membrane Society awarded PhD Students Awards and Young Academics Award, which where also announced during the Closing ceremony and the awarded students were:

PhD Students Awards:

Mariana Figuiera Alves from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Spain,
Serena Regina from National Research Council of Italy, Institute on Membrane Technology (CNR-ITM) in Rende, Italy,
Chidiebere Nnebuo from Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research, Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel.

Young Academics Award:
Asmaa Selim from Institute of Materials and Environmental Chemistry, Research Centre for Natural Science, Budapest, Hungary.

Congratulations to the awarded students and we look forward to the next event!
